Have You Ever Heard About Heartburn Hernia?
Perhaps you are wondering what the relationship between heartburn and hernia is. You will be surprised to find out that people with a hernia problem can experience heartburn as its symptom. The condition is not common, but it has happened before. What should you know about hernia? A hernia or medically known as a hiatus hernia is a condition where the stomach muscle moves up through an enlarged hiatus. It is unclear why the condition happens, but some people consider genetics as the main culprit. Other experts speculate that obesity and weight lifting are the causes of this condition. Whatever the reason of the hernia problem, 60% of its sufferers experience the problem when they reach the age of 60. In general, people do not experience any symptoms at all. However, in some uncommon cases, there are severe symptoms that occur, such as heartburn hernia, regurgitation, acid reflux, anemia, and difficulty to swallow. Different types of hernia Hiatus hernia can be classified into three types. First is the sliding hiatus hernia, which is the most common type of hernia. This condition happens when the portion of the stomach has risen through the hiatus slides back forth. It continues sliding back and forth through the chest. This common condition normally does not cause any serious problems. It only shows few or even no symptoms at all. The second type of hernia is the fixed hiatus hernia. The condition happens when the upper part of the stomach is caught in the chest. There are several symptoms of fixed hiatus hernia that may appear. The most potential problem with this type of hernia normally is related to the esophagus. The third and last type of hernia is the complicated hiatus hernia. This condition is also known as serious hiatus hernia. This is a very uncommon condition and it does not develop in any distinct patterns. The cause of this hernia is when the whole stomach moves up in the chest. Although serious hiatus hernia is rare, it is dangerous and most likely will show certain symptoms. Heartburn hernia is one of common symptoms that will happen when someone is suffering from serious hiatus hernia. Treating hiatus hernia When the hiatus hernia does not show any symptoms, then it is unnecessary to seek treatment. On the contrary, if you are experiencing symptoms like heartburn hernia, reflux esophagitis, anemia, coughing, wheezing, and difficulty to swallow, then it is wise to consult your doctor. The best treatment for the condition is changes in lifestyles. Make sure that you have healthy dietary habits, avoid excessive consumption of alcohol, stop smoking, and reduce caffeine intake.
